As we turn the page to 2024, the Africa Peacebuilding Institute (API) takes a moment to reflect on the year 2023 filled with challenges, triumphs, and unwavering commitment to fostering lasting peace across the continent. As we stand at the threshold of 2024, we look back with pride at the impact we’ve made and ahead with renewed determination to build a future where peace prevails.
Looking Back at a Year of Impact
Empowering Changemakers: We trained 85 individuals from across the African continent, with some from the United States of America in peacebuilding skills and methodologies, equipping them to address conflict at its root and drive positive change in their communities.
Expanding Our Reach:
Accordingly, We launched the goal-setting webinar for peacebuilders to address emerging challenges, such as how to measure one’s success in the peacebuilding realm. And this was facilitated by Mr Busani Ngwenya.
Building Partnerships: We strengthened our collaboration by participating in the MCC-organized Peace Sectoral Exchange that was held in Zimbabwe in September. We formed partnerships with 3 organizations and institutions working on peacebuilding in the continent, fostering a united front in the pursuit of peace across Africa.
Challenges and Triumphs
2023 was not without its challenges. The complex and evolving nature of conflict across the continent demanded constant adaptation and innovation. Yet, we witnessed countless moments of triumph: communities coming together to resolve conflicts peacefully, individuals empowered to advocate for change – becoming changemakers in their communities and hope to blossom amidst seemingly insurmountable odds. These triumphs serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of peacebuilding efforts.
Looking Forward to 2024
As we enter 2024, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building a more peaceful Africa. Our focus for the coming year will be on:
Deepening our impact: We will continue to refine our training programs and methodologies to ensure they are responsive to the evolving needs of communities facing conflict. This will see us including courses that touch on climate advocacy and peacebuilding, digital technology and peacebuilding, just to mention a few.
Scaling up our reach: We will expand our partnerships and explore innovative ways to reach more individuals and communities with our peacebuilding expertise. Our goal is to train many peacebuilders across the continent.
Promoting sustainable peace: We will work towards providing relevant training and consultancy services to all those in need, ensuring that we contribute towards sustainable peace in the continent and beyond. We will work with organizations that need our expertise in addressing the root causes of conflict, fostering dialogue and reconciliation, and supporting the development of peaceful and inclusive societies.
We invite you to join us on this journey towards a more peaceful Africa. Above all, we strongly believe that whether you are a seasoned peacebuilder, a concerned citizen, or simply someone who believes in the power of peace, your support is vital. Together, we can build a future where conflict is positively transformed, communities thrive, and lasting peace becomes a reality.
Let us continue to build peace, together.
