The Africa Peacebuilding Institute (API) is an educational community representing different ages, experiences, nationalities, ethnicities, religions, genders, economic classes and educational levels. In some cases, people may come from opposite sides of an on-going conflict.

API strives to create a safe and respectful environment for all participants. While attending the institute, in and out of session hours,
participants are expected to conduct themselves professionally as they would in formal work settings.

API expects all participants to abide by the following standards:
• Interact respectfully with people whose cultures, religions, and/or traditions may be different from their own.
• Listen carefully to the experiences and beliefs of others and try to learn more about our differences and commonalities.
• Be considerate of everyone, regardless of their opinions and experiences, even if I disagree with them.
• Recognize that views about relationships and roles between men and women vary greatly from society to society.
• Sexual harassment, defined broadly as unwelcome sexual advances or language, is not tolerated in the API community.
• Acceptable behavior may differ from culture to culture, but everyone has a right to feel safe in this learning environment.

If I become uncomfortable with anyone’s behavior towards me at API,
-- I am encouraged to speak with the API Coordinator or Assistant, who are trained to receive my
concerns in confidentiality.

I, the undersigned, hereby agree to abide by the ethical standards of API throughout my participation in the training. I understand that failure to comply may result in cancellation of my participation and without refund.
