This course explores the use of art as a tool for peacebuilding, examining the role of artistic expression in promoting healing, reconciliation, and social transformation. Through readings, lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, students will gain an understanding of the different forms of art used in peacebuilding, including visual arts, theater, music, and storytelling, and their impact on individuals and communities. The course will also examine the challenges and opportunities of using art for peacebuilding, including issues of representation, power, and cultural sensitivity, and the importance of community engagement in artistic initiatives. By the end of the course, students will have gained the knowledge and skills to design and implement effective art-based peacebuilding initiatives, and critically evaluate the role of art in promoting peace and social justice.
