One of the major challenges in peacebuilding or conflict transformation is monitoring and evaluation. It is often cumbersome trying to track outcomes especially in behavioral changes. The situation is made more complicated where there are multiple independent organizations operating in the same place. These encumbrances are often associated with a poor program plan and design. API consultants can provide leadership in monitoring and evaluation of an existing plan in a strategic manner that helps to identify and adequately address such challenges.
For planning, API consultants can engage in conflict analysis or situational assessments to identify key conflict drivers which will aid in designing relevant conflict intervention plans. In other words, API can assist those in leadership roles to step back and effectively analyze the nature and patterns of conflict within their organization or community. After this, an appropriate course of action is recommended, and a decision is enacted for sustainable results.
API can offer families, neighbors and workplaces support in addressing challenges in relationships. Our consultants are familiar with the importance of being an engaged neutral third party in non-violent conflict resolution and mediation. We can assist in identifying key issues and offer support in moving towards resolution and restored relationships.
Peacebuilding work can feel like a solitary endeavor. Practitioners, especially those who are new in the field, may feel unsure of their skills and tactics, and so need some mentorship or coaching. This service involves working alongside the practitioners to offer them support. This also includes providing guidance on peacebuilding planning and design, and general peacebuilding coaching and mentoring as may be required.
Many peacebuilders in the field see and respond to trauma of others but have no awareness of their own trauma as caregivers. They can become stressed out and on the verge of burn-out without realizing. Everyone needs occasional renewal amid such exhaustion to function at optimal capacity. Peace practitioners cannot excel in traumatic work situations without proper self-rejuvenation. API helps provide tools and resources in self-care and psychosocial support for peace practitioners to deal with their trauma. In this way, they can address the trauma of others better and become more effective.
